Maximum sustainable yields are maintained with zero bycatch
Dare to care food supports sustainability in the seafood industry!
Dare to care food offer some of the best quality tuna from the Maldives, where tuna fishery is considered to be the most sustainable of its kind in the world. For us it is essential to support sustainable fishery and therefore it is a deliberate choice to deal with fish caught with consideration for a healthy aquaculture.
By solely offering tuna, caught in the Maldives, Dare to care food take a stand that supports a more sustainable seafood industry. Since 2015 Maldivian fisherman have been working hard to reduce their amount of yellowfin tuna catches by using a handline, pole and line method, which ensures that “maximum sustainable yields are maintained with zero bycatch”, the Maldives Seafood Processors and Exporters Association (MSPEA) has noted. [1] Additionally, the Maldives tuna fishery supports the livelihoods of over 30 percent of the nation’s population.

How does pole and line tuna fishing work?
This fishing method, where fifteen fishermen stand shoulder to shoulder on a fishing boat, each holding a long pole, strung with a line and lure, makes sure that the tuna and other large pelagic species are caught one fish at the time.
The Marine Steward Council (MSC), an international non-profit organization that promotes solutions to eradicate overfishing and runs the only internationally recognised eco-certification for sustainability in wild-fishing, has certified the pole and line-fisheries because of the low level of catches and bycatches, which help fish populations to remain healthy.
The method’s more selective approach to fishing also ensures that other animals, such as sharks, turtles, whales and dolphins are more rarely caught and killed.[2] In this way, the Maldives is a pioneer within the field of sustainable fishery by using fishing methods the wider industry could learn a lot from.

Why dare to care food?
Dare to care food is an invitation for you to open up the door to a universe with delicious food preservatives processed and produced by enthusiasts. Our key quote is ’love of food’. For us food is about a good feeling in the body, which is connected to the heart and brain. It is about a sustainable lifestyle that provides healthy eating habits and not about a life of deprivation or “something to overcome:
” The purpose is foremost to dive deeper into food and to meet some of the most exciting food producers and personalities in the world. For me Dare to care food is about wanting, doing and giving more – and getting more out of life. For many years, I have lived the fast business-working-party life, but after a slowdown, I’ve started to live healthier and eat less meat,” the owner, Philip Monberg, says and continues:
”Looking back, I think I was searching to start over with something; to find a balance between diet, climate change and my lifestyle in general, including being a good father and being something for others. I suddenly found myself in a place in life where it was almost obvious to clean up, simply start over and to look inward. Therefore, Dare to care food is born out of love and out of gratitude to the food producers and the sustainable communities who care about our planet.”
